TOW GENIUS

Combined-weight guide

GCWR explained

GCWR is the manufacturer’s maximum allowed combined weight for the tow vehicle and trailer as configured and loaded.

What belongs in the combined total?

The combined calculation includes the loaded tow vehicle and loaded trailer. That means people, vehicle cargo, installed equipment, hitch hardware, trailer cargo, fluids, batteries, and other trip-ready weight.

Do not add tongue weight twice

When using actual scale weights, follow the scale procedure carefully. Tongue weight transfers to the tow vehicle through the hitch, but it remains part of the combined system; careless arithmetic can double-count it.

GCWR is one check among several

Being under GCWR does not override payload, axle, tire, hitch, receiver, or trailer ratings. A setup can pass one limit and fail another.

Best practice

Use certified scale measurements for the loaded combination when practical, compare them with the exact vehicle documentation, and retain meaningful margin for conditions and uncertainty.
